A Lush Desert Maternity Session | Ashley

Lush, in the Desert? Ya, I know what you’re thinking. BUT, Arizona FINALLY had a week of glorious Monsoon Weather and our beautiful desert is so lush and green right now! Perfect timing for Ashley’s Maternity session!

Photographing Ashley’s Maternity session was so so special for me for a few reasons… First, she was one of the first people to trust me and book a session with me way back when I picked up my camera and decided I was going to learn what to do with it! I photographed her adorable baby girl, Leilani’s first birthday cake smash! Documenting such a precious time in her life was so much fun! Photographing Ashley’s memories for her is also special to me, because I’ve actually known her for a LONG TIME. Like maybe 20 years? Gosh that makes me feel old. We were on club volleyball together, as young little..twelve year olds?? And we have kept in touch through the power of social media ever since! #clubzia

It was literally SO sweet to see her growing family in person after seeing all the good news of baby on the way over social media! I got to see Leilani, now as a blooming young 4 year old, and giving her mama and baby brother bump- ALL the love! It is truly an honor to photograph moments of families through the years and see them grow seemingly before my eyes! I swear Leilani’s first birthday was ..yesterday! How in the world have YEARS gone by?

This time, I got to photograph the whole fam! Since August in Arizona isn’t exactly a cool walk in the park- we started with their session with the whole fam! We got some really adorable images of then all together, celebrating baby brother coming soon! As you know, images of mama+little are often my favorites, and I think you’ll see why, here! But, we also had some truly heart warming daddy daughter moments, too! We just had to take a few moments of letting adorable Leilani shine! Then, she became the cutest assistant for me as she took some behind the scene’s videos while I got a few images of just mama and daddy! She has this adorable creative mind, and wanted to take a photo on the *real* camera too- and she did great! It totally made it in to their final gallery! How precious to have a professional photo from her maternity session, taken by her daughter!!

After all the family photo’s were done, Ashley swapped outfits from white to blue! It was such a perfect combination on the desert backdrop to celebrate baby boy! The second half of the session, the sun was setting and we had some really beautiful glow for some solo portraits of Ashley. We loved the ambiance of the desert with mountain views all around us, and we both could just feel the Peace and calm of the day as things were winding down.

I have so many favorites to share from Ashley’s session, and narrowing them down was HARD! I am pretty sure I will be sharing these forever more on Instagram 😉
